Yamnuska Mountain Adventures hosts wilderness First Aid courses by Rocky Mountain Adventure Medicine, Canada (RMAM).
Yamnuska’s Remote Responder program is a great introduction to Wilderness First Aid. Designed and leveled at the weekend warrior who recreates with their friends in activities in the Canadian Rockies such as mountain biking and sport climbing. It is taught entirely from the perspective of delayed help and enables the participant to perform valuable treatments that will lessen the severity of injuries and contribute to speedier recovery times in the case of an unfortunate incident.
Being fully recognized as meeting the standards set down by the Alberta Workplace Health and Safety for “standard” First Aid, it is also a valuable workplace qualification for those working in more remote environments.
This 10-day (80 hour) course is the industry standard for outdoor professionals. Many organizations require it as part of their job qualifications.
Topics include: patient assessment system, body systems, environmental injuries/conditions, anaphylaxis, lifting/moving/extrication, patient carries, backcountry medicine, and CPR.
Topics are covered in-depth and includes simulations. The course is recommended for outdoor professionals as well as outdoor recreationalists who lead adventure trips and those who are in the backcountry for days or weeks at a time and may have to care for a patient over an extended period.
This course is hosted by Yamnuska Mountain Adventures and taught by Rocky Mountain Adventure Medicine. This program is now recognized by Alberta Occupational Health & Safety as an Advanced First Aid certificate – see course details.
